The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) is a PPO (preferred provider organization) benefit program that enables enrollees to seek treatment from any licensed dentist within the service area but encourages them to seek treatment from a dentist who participates in one of the two Delta Dental national networks serving the TRDP. Processing and payment policies applicable to dentists who treat TRDP patients are defined below.

TRDP Participating Dentist Networks
Delta Dental PPO/DPO and Delta Dental Legion Networks

Both Delta Dental PPO (DPO in Texas) and Delta Dental Legion network dentists are considered participating TRDP network dentists. Dentists who belong to the Delta Dental PPO/DPO and Delta Dental Legion networks:

• Are responsible for submitting a claim on behalf of each eligible TRDP patient for all treatment that is rendered.
• Will have payment sent directly to their office.
• Cannot charge TRDP patients the difference between the Delta Dental approved fee and the submitted fee.
• Agree to adhere to the processing policies for TRDP covered services based on national Delta Dental processing policies and the provisions of Delta Dental’s TRDP contract with the Department of Defense.

Participating dentists who belong to the Delta Dental Legion network but who do not belong to the Delta Dental PPO/DPO network will be reimbursed based on a regional Delta Dental Legion network dentist fee schedule.

Participating dentists who belong to the Delta Dental PPO/DPO network but do not belong to the Delta Dental Legion network  will be reimbursed based on the local Delta Dental member company's established maximum allowable PPO/DPO reimbursement.

Dentists who belong to both the Delta Dental PPO/DPO and Delta Dental Legion networks will be reimbursed per their prevailing PPO/DPO agreement and fees.
 
Non-network Dentists

Dentists who do not belong to either of the networks that serve the TRDP are considered “non-network” dentists. There are two categories of non-network dentists: Delta Dental dentists who are not part of the participating TRDP networks (these include Delta Dental Premier® dentists), and dentists who do not belong to any Delta Dental network (referred to as “non-Delta Dental” dentists).

Delta Dental Premier®
Dentists who belong to the Delta Dental Premier network:

• Are responsible for submitting a claim on behalf of each eligible TRDP patient for all treatment that is rendered.
• Will have payment sent directly to their office.
• Will be reimbursed for TRDP services based on an an approved fee schedule (i.e. maximum plan allowance, or MPA) on file with their local Delta Dental member company.
• Cannot charge TRDP patients the difference between the Delta Dental approved fee (i.e. MPA) and the submitted fee.
• Agree to adhere to the processing policies for TRDP covered services based on national Delta Dental processing policies.

Dentists who belong to both the Delta Dental Premier and Delta Dental Legion networks will be reimbursed per their prevailing Delta Dental Legion agreement and fees.

Non-Delta Dental Dentists
Dentists who do not belong to any Delta Dental network:

• Will have their claims for allowed TRDP services processed in accordance with a non-network fee schedule.
• Will have payment sent directly to their office only if the patient has authorized the assignment of TRDP benefits to the dentist.
• Are allowed to collect payment in full, up to the submitted fee, from the patient at the time services are rendered.
