Federal Government Programs is now ISO 9001:2000 certified
Hard work and dedication by division staff helped the TRDP administrator achieve this prestigious milestone
The Federal Government Programs division of Delta Dental of California—administrator of the TRDP—has always taken pride in the quality of its products and services. However, on May 23, 2006 our operation was officially confirmed as “world-class” with the award of ISO 9001:2000 certification. While this type of certification is common in other businesses (such as high-tech companies), our division is among the elite few insurance carriers to achieve this honor.
What exactly is ISO 9001 certification, and what does it mean to our customers? ISO 9001 was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), a network of 148 countries working to establish universal standards. These standards were designed to help companies create and maintain specific documented procedures necessary to produce quality products and services that surpass customers’ expectations.
An ISO 9001 certified organization uses this set of rules—commonly referred to as a business management system— to first determine and understand its customers’ needs and then fulfill those needs with maximum efficiency. ISO 9001 certified companies must also undergo rigorous external audits to ensure these standards are maintained.
The award of our certification was the culmination of a two-and-a-half-year process that began when Lowell Daun , DDS, senior vice president of Federal Government Programs, encouraged division staff to meet this challenge head-on. He knew that ISO certification would be a valuable asset in serving our current client, the Department of Defense, and other federal entities whose business we may acquire in the future.
Though the process was difficult at first, Federal Government Programs staff soon realized that all the hard work would be worth it. The point at which we knew the project would succeed was when employees began to say they understood how it was going to benefit our customers with the level of service they deserve.
The system resulting from Federal Government Programs’ ISO certification project assures you that we are dedicated to quality and committed to continually improving our service. For more information about ISO standards, visit the International Organization for Standardization at www.iso.org.
