Honor all veterans this Tuesday, November 11
November 11, known as Armistice Day when Congress first declared it a legal holiday in 1938, is now celebrated as Veterans’ Day. The day has been set aside each year to honor U.S. military veterans for their patriotism and sacrifice.
This Veterans’ Day, Delta Dental and the TRDP invite all Americans to join us in saluting some 23.4 million living military veterans and the generations before them who have fought to protect and uphold our nation’s freedom and democracy.
Just some of the activities taking place throughout the country to commemorate Veterans’ Day include parades, ceremonies, and tributes to distinguished veterans as well as sports events, military exhibits, restaurants offering discounts to military members, and individual veterans wearing their military medals in public to demonstrate their proud service to our country.
National observances—including a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington National Cemetery, to be attended by Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake—are scheduled at 33 sites in 20 states.
But Dr. Peake reminds all Americans that honoring our veterans “can be as simple as putting out the porch flag or reminding youngsters of the story of a relative who served in the military.”
